IELTS (the International English Language Testing System) is the world’s most popular English language test for work, study, and migration. IELTS assesses a test taker’s English language proficiency across four skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing delivered on either a computer or paper. IELTS is the only high-stakes language test recognised for migration across Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

Structure of IELTS
IELTS test includes four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will take the Listening, Reading, and Writing tests all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between. For the Speaking test, you can book a slot online on your preferred date and time. If you fail to choose a slot within the stipulated time, a slot will be automatically allocated to you. The total test time is under three hours.

Syllabus
IELTS syllabus contains a total of four sections, i.e., Reading, Speaking, Writing and Listening. For the two types of IELTS tests, i.e., Academic and General, the sections of Reading and Writing are different while the Listening and Speaking sections remain the same for these two versions.

Exam duration
The Listening, Reading and Writing sections of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day, with no breaks in between them. The Speaking section, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. The total time of the test is 2 hours and 45 minutes.

Overall: 6.5 band
Individual: 6 band

Test validity
The IELTS TRF (Test Report Form) is valid for 2 years, and the candidate can resist the test anytime. The applicant must be above 16 years to appear in the examination.

Exam Mode
You can choose to take IELTS on a computer or paper for both the General Training and Academic tests. The test format, question types, time allocated to each test part and content is the same for both IELTS on computer and IELTS on paper test. The only difference is in your test day experience.
